Why do Flower Shops want you to place your Valentines Orders Early!
Such a great question!
For the province of Alberta, fresh cut flowers arrive from international importers throughout the week, every week. Some of the international partners who supply flowers to Alberta include: Ecuador, Columbia, California, Holland, Kenya, etc… Each of these locations have farms that specialize in specific stems. Some farms grow only roses, some grow carnations, etc. Every week, flowers are harvested, packed for transportation, inspected by the authorities and finally delivered to Alberta flower shops.
Flower shops do their very best to look
into their crystal balls in January each year, to estimate how many of each
stem they think they might need for Valentines Day. The farms require these estimates by mid
January, every year.
Then, internationally, the farms go to work
to have available what the flower shops ordered. If your flower shop forecasted a need for
1000 red roses and you place your order late making your order the 1001 rose,
you may not get the colour or rose you want.
Early orders are best to make certain you get the flowers you (or your
loved one) really wants!
